Apparently the go to local tavern in Rocky River...and it should be the go-to.

Fabulous old school ambience, old school service, and old school food with a nice selection of beers.

Specials written on the chalkboard on the way in and on the wall each day. Old school.

Our party of three had a burger (delicious), onion rings (delicious), a salmon Caesar salad (delicious), the fish and chips (delicious, if a little heavily battered), and fries. Probably wouldn't order the fish and chips again as a result, but confident that the rest of the menu probably delivers as a good bar/tavern menu should.

Three stars not a ding at all. It would be a solid 4+ in the tavern category -- just up against fine dining for stars four and five.

It's nothing super special. But a great place to catch up with family or friends for a quick, informal meal.

My son and I went to Herb's for breakfast and it pains me to say it, but the corned beef hash is straight from a can and was, candidly, inedible.

Two servers were fighting with each other which was interesting as it was 'breakfast with Santa' morning so, you know, there's that.

Chris the bartender was outstanding as always - even my five year old said how nice he was and how good he was / is. "Santa" was also outstanding.

My recommendation: Go for a beer, not the food, and sit at the bar.

food was ok but not for the price. Lots of other places in Rocky River with better food at more reasonable price. Won't be back.

For a place that used to be known for good burgers, they now don't know how to cook them as they come out gray with no crispy edges or crust. Not very appetizing.

Used to be a good place to eat. Now, the prices are way out of line with the quality of the food. My Diet Coke was flat, my friend's bourbon and coke didn't really have any bourbon in it. Won't be coming back here. I just couldn't believe how expensive it is now. No value. When we got our food it was not good. The onions and mushrooms on my burger were cold. The burger tepid. My friends ordered patty melts. Brought out cold. They did comp the meal, I'll give them that. What a shame. I used to like eating there.

Stopped in last night for the first time for a Lenten fish dinner and it was awful! $21 for a two piece with a tiny bowl of coleslaw and frozen French fries. The fish was obviously beer battered frozen cod like you could get from Sea Pak at Giant Eagle grocery store for under $10 for a 10 oz. box. I realize we were eating at a restaurant and had the convenience of not cooking it ourselves, but if they are going to serve a grocery store variety of fish, at least add hand cut French fries and not bad quality frozen crinkle cut fries! Very disappointing! The service from a young man who was our server was the only pleasant experience of the evening! Not sure we will stop again to try their other options after this bad experience.

What a weird dinner experience. We recently moved to Rocky River and have been told Herb's is a staple of the community but has gone downhill since a recent change in ownership. I have tried going 3 times and each time they have been closed during normal business hours. We went for an early dinner on Saturday and were told they would be closing at 6:30.

Starting with the good - the server was very friendly. Kids' meals come on plates separating food making it easy for them to eat.

The bad - we started with tater tots which arrived frozen in the middle. They forgot to enter one of our entrees. After they made it, they threw it away because of the bread and made it again. They were out of french fries. They were out of burgers. We were told to conserve napkins as they were nearly out of those. This feels like a poorly run establishment. Outrageously priced for the options, quality and portion size. Much better options in the area. Unfortunately, this is a one-and-done for us.

Our last visit was awful! The food was always pretty good! The patty melt I ordered was terrible! The soda was flat. They didn't charge us!

I had only ever been to Herb's, years ago, when friends took me there for a hamburger birthday dinner. Today I stopped for breakfast. Incredibly generous servings, everything was great.
